Student Committee

Mission Statement

The UMS Student Committee aims to boost student interest and participation in UMS programs through improving communication between UMS and the student community, and promoting student awareness, accessibility, and value of UMS programs.

What exactly does the UMS Student Committee do?

The UMS Student Committee meets on a monthly basis, usually over pizza at the UMS office building on Liberty Street. At these meetings, members discuss how best to promote the arts to the student population. Members engage in a variety of projects and initiatives focused on achieving this goal, such as writing for the UMS student blog, designing and distributing marketing materials geared towards the student population, providing feedback to UMS staff, developing and promoting student ticket programs, and organizing or assisting at student events such as Diag Day, Festifall, Arts & Eats, the Half-Price Student Ticket Sale, etc. This group offers a laid-back environment which not only values, but depends on each member's input, ideas and contributions. Many meetings also include a short seminar given by one of the members of the UMS staff on various topics involved in arts presenting, such as marketing, programming, audience development, production, trends in the field, etc.

The UMS Student Committee offers a unique opportunity to gain insight and professional experience in the arts from one of the highest-rated arts presenters in the nation. In addition to invaluable experience and insight, members also receive complimentary tickets to select UMS performances. Involvement is on a purely voluntary basis, does not require any experience in the arts and is open to all students (undergrad or grad).
