Members of the
Takács Quartet

Monday, March 15, 8 pm
Rackham Auditorium

Main Floor $46 · $38 · $30 · $22

Please Note: Karoly Schranz, the second violinist of the Takács Quartet, has had to undergo rotator cuff surgery and will not be performing at this concert. As a result, the Takács Quartet has changed their program to include other chamber works for violin/viola and cello (see below). We regret this change, but wish Mr. Schranz a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming the entire quartet back in the 10/11 season.

One of the highlights of UMS’s Chamber Arts Series over the past decade is the near-annual visit by the Takács Quartet, whose dazzling performances never cease to amaze. The ensemble returns with two Beethoven quartets bookending a brief new work by New Zealand composer John Psathas. London critics are raving about the Takács’ Beethoven cycle, which is being performed in several concerts throughout this city this year. The Guardian says, “The Takács Quartet’s Beethoven cycle will, in due course, surely be counted as one of the highlights of the group’s career, and to be present at any of its performances will doubtless count as one of the highlights in a lifetime’s listening.” Another reviewer from The Guardian concurred: “each performance became a journey of exploration for the audience…There’s simply no other quartet around today that comes within touching distance of the Takács.”
