Qawwali Music of Pakistan
Mehr and Sher Ali
CONCERT CANCELED
Friday, April 18, 8 pm
Rackham Auditorium
| Main Floor | $40 · $36 · $28 · $20 |
We’re sorry to report that the Mehr and Sher Ali: Qawwali Music of Pakistan performance scheduled for Friday, April 18 at 8 pm in Ann Arbor’s Rackham Auditorium has been canceled. Unfortunately, over half of the members of the nine-person ensemble, including headliner Sher Ali, were unable to receive travel visas in time for the performance and are currently stranded in Islamabad. Despite efforts by Sen. Carl Levin’s office, and the efforts of other congress members whose districts were scheduled to present the concert, we have not received any positive indication that the status of the detained musicians might change in time for them to perform the concert on Friday evening.
While the musicians who are in the US could perform a concert on Friday, we believe that, given the absence of more than half the group, the concert’s content would be vastly different from what we and our audience expected to hear. Because the integrity of the performance has been significantly diminished, we cannot, in good faith, present it to our audiences.
Ticketbuyers are being contacted with details about how to obtain a refund for the value of their tickets.
If you have any questions, please contact the UMS Ticket Office at 734-764-2538. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that this change to our season has caused. We had all looked forward to welcoming Mehr and Sher Ali to Ann Arbor and are disappointed that they will be unable to join us as scheduled.
