UMS Advisory Committee
The UMS Advisory Committee is an organization of over 80 volunteers who contribute over 7,500 hours of service to UMS each year. The Advisory Committee champions the mission and advances the goals of UMS through community engagement, financial support and other volunteer service.
Advisory Committee members work to increase awareness of and participation in UMS programs through the Education and Community Engagement committee, ushering at UMS youth performances, and partnerships with various U-M and community groups.
Raising money to support UMS Education Programs is another major goal of the Advisory Committee. Upcoming events include:
-
On The Road with UMS
Fri, September 16, 2011
A. Alfred Taubman Biomedical Science Research Building
109 Zina Pitcher Place, Ann Arbor
Mark your calendar for a festive evening featuring live and silent auctions, wine pull and raffle?a fun-filled event with fabulous food, entertainment, and an exciting launch of the new UMS Season.
- Ford Honors Program and Dinner Gala
Each year, UMS honors an artist and/or company with the Distinguished Artist award prior to their performance. Included in the evening is a Gala Dinner, reception and/or afterglow with the artist(s) in attendance.
- The Advisory Committee under the heading, Advisory Presents? offers social and educational opportunities that fall under three categories:
- Advisory Nights ? casual events in members' homes or a specialized gathering in a community location
- Artful Encounters ? events incorporating the relationship between the visual and performing arts
- Unique Experiences ? unique opportunities for Advisory Committee members and friends to enjoy themed activities that will typically include a dining experience.
Attendance at these activities could require a participation fee, but they are not large scale fundraising activities such as On The Road with UMS and Ford Honors.
The above list is not meant to be exclusive since we are also committed to the idea that jobs evolve with the imagination and commitment of the people serving in them.
Specific Advisory Committee responsibilities are:
- Attend Advisory Committee meetings every other month. General membership meetings are bi-monthly beginning in September, usually at the noon hour.
- Serve as chair, co-chair or active participant for one or more committees or events.
- Attend as many Advisory Committee and UMS events as possible.
- Be an ambassador for UMS by promoting events, performances and donor opportunities.
- Contribute financially to UMS on an annual basis.
The above list is not meant to be exclusive since the Advisory Committee is committed to the idea that responsibilities evolve with the imagination and commitment of the individuals participating.
Members serve a three-year term, which may be extended for an additional three years by invitation of the Chair of the Advisory Committee. Membership recruitment begins in January, and new members join in June. For more information, please contact Membership Chair Ann Martin at Thank you for your interest in the Advisory Committee.
